Julian Piper, Blues South West

If Tom Waits mother had got together with Howlin' Wolf - you'd probably end up with Ben Carr ! When he and the Hot Rats hit the Voodoo Lounge in Exeter, they unfailingly tear the place apart with the kind of rip roaring rambunctious show that has mothers clutching their daughters and old men chasing their mothers. A true original who takes no prisoners every time he plays, the Hot Rats have got the most pulverising original sound I've heard this year.....

Blues in the South

I have had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Ben Car and the Hot Rats on a number of occasions. Ben and the boys can always be relied on to produce a varied and interesting set with a mixture of their own music and old-time greats. The band can be both exciting and restrained - sometimes both at the same time - and are strongly recommended.

Ben is a reliable guy... He is bandleader of Ben Carr and the Hot Rats, he has always shown himself to be enthusiastic and trustworthy in my dealings with him. You can rest assured that he is a good timekeeper and his band shows great promise in the future. I have used his services as support for my own bands, The Big Combo and The Wildcards and he has always delivered the goods at live shows. I spent countless hours working in the studio with him on the bands debut cd throughout 2006, I worked with the band as guest musician and producer and the results show that he is a versatile, entertaining musician who takes his music very seriously.
